A short getaway rarely needs a huge suitcase. Start with the journey you have booked, the weather forecast and what you will actually use.
Keep essentials within reach
Place your identification, phone, charger, water bottle and personal medicines in a small day bag. Keep copies of your booking and pickup details available offline.
Choose versatile layers
Pack comfortable clothes that work together. A light extra layer can help during early starts or cool evenings. For wet weather, check whether a rain jacket is appropriate for your destination.
Prioritise comfortable footwear
Bring shoes suited to the walking described in your itinerary. New shoes are best broken in before departure. A spare pair of socks takes little space and can be useful after a rainy day.
A simple packing checklist
- Identification and booking details
- Phone, charger and power bank
- Reusable water bottle
- Personal medicines and any prescriptions you need
- Weather-appropriate layers
- Toiletries in small containers
- Comfortable shoes and spare socks
Check before you add extras
Read the luggage guidance for your transport and accommodation. Ask whether towels or specialist equipment are supplied; never assume that they are. Carry only what you can comfortably manage at pickup and check-in.
